Project Idea
Mr. Trampoline’s Dance Mix started out as a design challenge during summer between year 2 and year 3. I tried to come up with designs for randomly generated game titles. When year 3 rolled around, I could choose any project idea and since I liked Mr. Trampoline’s idea the most out of my practice designs and newly created ideas, I decided to go with it.
The game is created for casual play in mind but is supposed to be addicting and challenging. I relied on design principles for arcade games, which ramp up in difficulty quickly and have an endlessly repeating game loop. This should give the player the drive to whip out their phones whenever there are short downtimes for a one-to-five-minute game session.
The game consists of two phases. The trampoline phase, which is inspired by Breakout and Pong. The player needs to use the trampoline to keep Mr. Trampoline from falling onto the ground. The dance phase is reached if the character reaches a certain height. In this phase, the player needs to swipe in the indicated directions to dance and score points. This phase is inspired by rhythm games, but without leaning onto the rhythm of the music.
How to play
As this is a mobile game, you only need your finger.
Hold and drag the finger left and right on the screen to move the trampoline to bounce Mr. Trampoline.
While holding, drag the finger downwards to charge the trampoline’s bounce power. This will give you the opportunity to launch Mr. Trampoline further into the air.
To launch Mr. T further into the air, you time your release of the finger right before he touches the trampoline. If successfully done, the character will be launched higher into the air.
Once you reach the dance phase, swipe in the indicated direction on the screen to score!
When the character falls down again, be ready to go back to the trampoline and catch the character!
